We landed on the chopper pad on LZ Fat City the last of May or the first of June 1969. When we got to Fat City, we had
a lot of new people and I had my own gun crew. I still remember the smell from the coast. There was such a strong, stinking
fish smell and white sand. When we got to Fat City, we had a new Co., Cpt. Starr. First Sgt. Cole was going home. He was the
best First Sgt. that I ever had. He was from Lawton, Oklahoma. He was always fair and was always good to me. He reminded me
of my grandfather who was alive at that time. When Top left us, he was going home to retire from the Army. Here are some pictures
of LZ Fat City.
Sgt.Clarence Marrs just off of LZ Professional. I have on new clothes and a care package from home. I was glad to be
here let me tell you.
This short timer calender is the same one on the wall in the picture above. I can't make out how many days it was because
the ink is so dark. I think it is a 90 day calender. When I came home,I brought it with me and my Mother saved it with all
the letters I had ever written to her.

This picture taken at LZ Fat City, with Clarence Marrs on the left, Earl McGreger from Mississippi in the center. Earl
has some hair under his nose in this one. On the right, I am not real sure, but, I think his name was Bruno? Both of these
people went through LZ Professional at the same time that I did.
Fire mission, LZ Fat City, with Clarence Marrs on the left and Edward Cloutier on the right. Ed was from the state of
Maine. Before he went into the Army, he worked at the Colt weapons factory. He knew everything about an M-16 and an M-60 machine
gun. Once on LZ Professional, Ed said that something was wrong with his M-16 and he needed another one. Well, he didn't get
one. To prove to them that there was something wrong with it, he put 17 magazines of tracers through it and burnt the barrel
up on it.
The guy in the background on the right side of the picture is Sgt. Bailey. He has on his baseball cap standing
against the Exec. Post.

Cloutier. Ed could see better with his helmet on backwards.
I received an email from John Duggan and he told me that he
thought he was the one on the left. This web site is showing me everyday just how small our world is.

the right. I can't remember his name and it makes me mad. He went through LZ Professional and was in my gun crew. If anyone
out there can remember his name let me know.

Rudy found the web sit by
going to the Americal web site. He said it was just three clicks and he was here. I got this Email on the 14th of March 2002.
I had gone to bed and my wife opened Rudy'e Email and thought she should wake me. I am glad she did, she remembered that I
had gone to Davis so long ago to try and see Rudy. When I called and talked to his Mom he was away at school.Tonight I called
Rudy on the phone and we talked for about forty minutes. I know one thing I was so excited in him finding the site I didn't
get much sleep if any after we hung up the phone.
